President’s Message

Drew Sones

Welcome to First Day!  Your visit to our web site tells me you are interested in your community and our response to homelessness in the Whittier area and surrounding cities.

First Day is a Recovery from Homelessness Program which has proven successful over the last 15 years. Our Recovery Program is unique as it is a six-month residential program that provides support to those homeless individuals who have made the decision to integrate back into society and reconnect with family and friends. Our Program is reciprocal in nature as we introduce our residents to the community at large and in turn we reintroduce our residents to the community in which they live. Homelessness is very isolating and through our recovery process residents become confident in their inclusion in the community as they interact with the community at large.

Our services are comprehensive and designed to build self-esteem and confidence on an individualized recovery plan we call “Passport to Success”. Each resident’s passport contains their own plan for their vision of their life going forward including goals for education, employment, health, housing, family, friends, volunteering, life skills, etc.

First Day was established by caring, committed community members as a community based recovery program for the homeless in our community. Please join with us in the success of our program with your contributions of time, talent and treasure.

Thank you,
Drew Sones, Board President
